Hey #ukip it’s racism stupid

I think I may have identified the problem that Ukip have with Racism – it’s simply that they have no idea what the word means. They are quite fond of accusing those who call their supporters and members out as being racists or bigots, of being ignorant as to its meaning but I would argue that they themselves seem to be.

So just for Ukip here is how the UN defines Racial Discrimination

” The term “racial discrimination” shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction, or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin that has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life.”

But that’s mostly not what you practice, you practice what society has accepted as racism and sociologists describe as implicit or averse racism:

“Implicit racism, in contrast, includes nonconscious biases, expectations, or tendencies that exist within an individual, regardless of ill-will or any self-aware prejudices the person may or may not hold”

This is where Ukip collectively scream – “sociologists lefty nonsense” and “Political Correctness running wild”

The problem with implicit racism is that it is those likely to say “I’m not racist but” or “my friends are Black/Asian/Muslim” who practice it, without realising they are doing so. Janice Atkinson is a classic example of someone who will deny to her back teeth she is racist, but attributing characteristics to a person based on the their perceived ethnicity is racism. This is exactly what Janice did “ting tong from somewhere”, referring to a rather unpleasant character from Little Britain (and no Ukip I did not complain to the BBC as the programme was making fun of the implicit racists out there just like you!)

The defence of Janice has been sad to see and has of course completely missed the point

This from foxy is a typical example ..

And the defence continues. Thomas Evans, Ukip member prolific tweeter and someone who loves to comment on news articles, used the “restaurant” defence, when commenting on this article.

Racism in any form, wether implicit or explicit, is unacceptable. It is not PC to expect society to treat individuals as equals. I am quite sure that Janice would not have said that “Ting Tong from somewhere” about a white middle aged woman married to a white middle aged man. That, being the case, would suggest rather strongly that Janice was being racist as well as just plain rude. Since her uttering of those words she has been arrogant and rather unapologetic. This is the kind of racism that insidiously undermines society. It is the sort of racism that those practicing it think does not exist and those who are on the receiving end feel is ignored.

That Ukip have resorted to attacking the victim says a lot about the sincerity of Nigel’s apology ( obviously for Ukip the apology was on the basis that you then shut up and leave the party alone )

Finally an example of what is not racist from the always amusing Marty Caine.

I said this

And Marty interjected with

No wonder Ukip have a problem if this is what they understand by racism!

One quick PS…
As I was finishing this blog I notice this from Suzanne Evans an elected representative of this country who I am sure has constituents who are Muslim. You see Suzanne it isn’t funny it’s just rather pathetic / sad and yet again an example of the implicit racism so prevalent in Ukip.

Hey UKIP a lie is a lie is a lie .. Unless it’s crass stupidity

In May the NUS voted on a motion to oppose UKIP. You might not agree with this but it’s important, at this point, before we go any further to understand the difference between oppose and ban. Ukip are not banned they can stand in NUS elections, if they wish. Further rationale behind the vote to oppose can be found here

Yesterday the youth wing of UKIP decided to set up a new group Ukip students to cater for the laughably small numbers of uni students who support ukip

This is where the fun and games begins Suzanne Evans Community spokesperson Tweets that the NUS are a leftist dictatorship, I asked for an example of dictator like behaviour … She tells me ukip candidates are not allowed to stand for election .. I point out her mistake – so far so every day ..

She asks me to apologise for calling her a liar .. I point out she lied

20140803-165037-60637404.jpg

Then blow me she tells the same lie again, whilst demonstrating ignorance about the actual date of the NUS conference

You will note from the above tweet the Caroline Santos jumped in with her two pence worth to defend Ms Evans ( it was really worth less than that )

First she tweeted two tweets from YI from back in May

And

20140803-165831-61111363.jpg

The confusion it seems started back in May when YI lied ( perhaps we could use the word exaggeration but really it’s a lie ) and now their original lie is being used to defend a new lie!

Of course once Caroline Suzanne and YI were confronted with their lies they apologised and promised never to do it again – because Ukip are different from all other political parties.

20140803-170650-61610341.jpg

That will be Caroline admitting she is wrong .. how about YI

20140803-171454-62094815.jpg

They also happily admit they were wrong ..

Of course none of them admitted they were wrong or that they lied in order to make the NUS look authoritarian and undemocratic. As for opposing a political party that’s what we all so all the time .. Either we oppose UKIP or we support it – it is democracy at work.

So I will leave you with the libertarian view point from Ms Santos .. And yes Caroline opposing a political viewpoint you disagree with is very much part of democracy.
